How Controlling Each Personality Type Can Be
We all have our moments of being controlling, but some people prefer to take charge of situations more than others. Here is how controlling each personality type actually is.
INFJ
INFJs can be particular about certain things in their lives, especially since they have a rather perfectionist nature. They certainly like to do things a specific way, but usually do not push this way of living onto others. INFJs may be seen as controlling when they truly care about someone close to them. They often can see the best path that will ensure happiness for their loved ones, which might make them appear controlling if they decide to help those people with their choices. In most cases though, INFJs will not attempt to push people and will simply give their advice and allow others to make their own choices. In most cases they are private people and attempt to keep to themselves, controlling only what involves themselves. They can be seen as controlling in some situations, and pushovers in others.
ENFJ
ENFJs are very strong-willed individuals who truly only want to help others out. Their desire to make everyone happy can actually cause them to appear controlling in many situations. They can often see the best path for others to achieve their goals, and they might seem pushy when they attempt to assist those people. ENFJs are constantly on the go, getting things done and working to help others. They want to ensure that everyone around them reaches their full potential, which might make them appear controlling sometimes. They are rarely trying to push people for their own selfish reasons and are almost always doing this in order to care for the needs of their loved ones.
INFP
INFPs are rarely seen as controlling, but they do like to do things their own way. They dislike being told what to do, but they also don’t want to place demands on other people. INFPs prefer to be allowed to make their own choices, and they actually will become frustrated if they see people attempting to control someone. INFPs are rather private individuals, who enjoy being able to live their lives at their own pace. They dislike being controlled and are truly not controlling in most situations. They simply are not pushy people and won’t waste their time trying to control someone else.
ENFP
ENFPs are enthusiastic and fun people, who enjoy being able to live their life how they choose. They despise when someone attempts to control them and might even do the opposite of what that person demands of them. ENFPs enjoy challenging authority, which can get them into trouble from time to time. They will rarely attempt to control others, unless they feel like they need to in order to get what they want. They will never be directly controlling and may simply enlist subtle tactics in order to convince someone of something. They are charismatic, which often allows them to get their way easily.
INTP
INTPs do no seek to control, but rather to inform others. They are sometimes viewed as controlling because they are great at finding more effective ways of doing something, and people may become annoyed by their input. Sometimes INTPs will favor precision and accuracy over sensitivity, which can cause people to call them controlling. They are not hoping to control a situation, they simply want to inform people of the best way to accomplish their tasks. They will logically consider the best course of action and will explain their reasoning to others. This can make them appear stubborn or controlling to people who want to operate based on their own internal emotions. They simply don’t want to go about doing something that doesn’t seem like the wisest way to do it.
ENTP
ENTPs can sometimes appear pushy or controlling to others, especially since they have a rather enigmatic personality. They enjoy keeping active and truly hate when things become too stagnant in their lives. They enjoy doing things their own way, and will often leave others behind if they cannot keep up. ENTPs thrive on debate, which can appear pushy and frustrating to people who simply desire to keep harmony. If an ENTP is frustrated and feels like someone isn’t doing something intelligently, they may step in and try to take control of the situation.
INTJ
INTJs often enjoy having their lives organized in a rather specific way. They enjoy being able to control their environment and create a setting that runs smoothly and efficiently. They often are capable of seeing the best way that things should be done and may become frustrated if people aren’t following that ideal plan. In some situations people may believe that INTJs are controlling, but that is simply because they dislike when things are being done emotionally or without logical reasoning.
ENTJ
ENTJs can often appear controlling, but that is simply because they like things to be done correctly. They prefer that everything be efficient, and if someone isn’t doing a good job they will often step in and take control. They are great at commanding others in order to get things done properly. ENTJs are actually skilled when it comes to being in control, and will naturally give orders to others. They simply do this because they want things done in the most efficient way possible.
ISFJ
ISFJs enjoying schedules and often do things the way they are used to doing them. They want to keep harmony in their environment, which can sometimes make them appear controlling. If someone attempts to shake up their way of life too much, they might have a hard time with this. ISFJs often enjoy having things the way they are used to, because it makes it easier for them to provide for their loved ones. They are extremely caring individuals who just want to do what they can for the people in their lives.
ESFJ
ESFJs can sometimes appear controlling when they are attempting to care for their loved ones. They want to provide for them and make them happy, and sometimes they can become pushy in these situations. They will occasionally feel like they know what is best for the people in their lives and might attempt to find ways to help even when people do not want it. ESFJs are not controlling for selfish reasons, but simply strive to make others happy however they can.
ISTJ
ISTJs are often used to having things done a certain way, and might dislike if these things are changed. They are very hard-working individuals who strive to do their best to get things done efficiently. They can sometimes appear controlling because they often dislike being told what to do by others. They will rarely attempt to control other people and enjoy allowing people to make their own choices. If certain things are affecting the ISTJs way of life, they might push back in order to do things the way they want.
ESTJ
ESTJs value efficiency which can often make them come across as controlling. They often strive to control their environment in order to ensure that things get done properly. ESTJs are actually really good at getting things done and because of this they often become the leader in many situations. They are natural leaders, which can make them appear more controlling. ESTJs are great at taking charge and are naturally skilled at making sure things get done the best way possible.
ISTP
ISTPs usually not controlling individuals and they definitely dislike being controlled. They enjoy being able to make their own decisions and have no desire to force their choices upon others. ISTPs are independent people who will rarely be seen as controlling. They tend to just go with the flow and are good at doing things their own way.
ESTP
ESTPs are not naturally controlling individuals, but on occasion do like to have things their own way. They are outgoing and fun-loving people, who enjoy living in the moment. ESTPs want others to see them as efficient and hard-working people and they definitely go after their goals full force. They might attempt to control people in order to get what they want from them, but they really don’t do this in a harmful way.
ISFP
ISFPs are not at all controlling individuals and prefer to go with the flow. They dislike when people try to control them and might even become upset if they see someone attempting to control another person. They believe in making their own choices and have a strong internal sense of morals. ISFPs are independent and personal people, they dislike the idea of trying to push their feelings onto others.
ESFP
ESFPs are fun-loving and enjoyable individuals who like to go with the flow and live in the moment. They simply want everyone to enjoy themselves and are great at making people smile. ESFPs dislike being controlled and will often dislike the idea of controlling others. ESFPs might attempt to control a situation in order to achieve their goals. They dislike when things are upsetting or unhappy around them, and so they might try to control the situation in order to make things better.
